The Bio: Aris Tsiropoulos — I.G.S-Certified Professional Gemologist

Most jewelers learn about gemstones from catalogues. Aris Tsiropoulos learned about them from the ground.

Throughout the 1990s and into the 2000s, Aris travelled to eight countries across three continents — personally sourcing rough stones at origin. In the sapphire and ruby fields of Sri Lanka. The emerald mines of Zambia and Zimbabwe. The diamond deposits of Congo. The aquamarine and tourmaline sources of Mozambique and Brazil — including the extraordinarily rare Paraíba Tourmaline. The semi-precious stone regions of South Africa. The mineral markets of India.

He did not buy from middlemen. He went to the source, built direct relationships with miners, mastered the cutting process himself, and brought that knowledge back to Nicosia — where our in-house lapidary facility continues to cut and polish stones to this day.

His formal gemological education spans 27 years and includes certifications from some of the world’s most respected institutions:

– Certified Professional Gemologist — International Gem Society (I.G.S.), 2007, passed both examinations on first attempt with a 92% written score
– Coloured Gem Professional Diploma — Gübelin Academy, Switzerland 2024, the highest distinction of the programme
– Certifications from the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, the International School of Gemology and the School of Diamantology, Cyprus

In 2019, Tsiropoulos Jewelry was part of the organising committee of the 5th Mediterranean Gemmological and Jewellery Conference in Limassol — attended by delegates from 27 countries.

Aris is also the founder of the Cyprus Gemological Laboratory (CGL) — an independent, fully equipped gemological laboratory in Nicosia, issuing internationally recognised certificates for diamonds, gemstones, and jewelry.
